Ramban, August 22: MLA Banihal-Gool Sajjad Shaheen today flagged off a ₹52 lakh state-of-the-art Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) at Ramban, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Ramban Ilyas Khan and former DDC Chairperson Shamshada Shan.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaheen said the Mobile Medical Unit is an important step towards taking quality healthcare services closer to people living in remote and far-flung areas of Khari Block of his constituency.

The MMU has been equipped with modern medical and diagnostic facilities, including portable ultrasound, ECG, multiparameter monitoring system, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), auto-analyser, fetal Doppler and other essential diagnostic and emergency-care equipment.

Shaheen said the facility would strengthen the delivery of healthcare services in remote areas where people often have to travel considerable distances to access specialised medical facilities.

He said the MMU would facilitate early diagnosis, basic medical investigations, emergency support, maternal and child healthcare and timely medical intervention at the doorstep of communities. The facility would also help in the early detection of health conditions and enable patients to receive appropriate medical advice and referrals without unnecessary travel.

“This Mobile Medical Unit will be particularly beneficial for the people living in the difficult and remote terrain of Khari Block. Bringing modern diagnostic and healthcare facilities closer to the people is an important step towards ensuring equitable access to healthcare,” Shaheen said.

The MLA expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Health Minister Sakina Itoo and officers of the Health Department for extending the facility to Khari Block.

Shaheen said that healthcare delivery in remote and hilly areas requires innovative and mobile solutions, adding that the MMU would complement existing health institutions and help bridge gaps in access to medical services.

He said strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that people in remote areas receive quality services remains one of his key priorities for the Banihal-Gool constituency.

He also appreciated the officers and health department officials involved in making the facility operational and expressed hope that the MMU would effectively serve the people of Khari Block and adjoining remote areas.
