Aizawl: Mizoram’s final electoral roll published after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) includes 8,35,869 electors, a net increase of 6,963 from the draft roll, chief electoral officer Garima Gupta said on Monday.The final roll includes 4,32,689 females and 4,03,179 male electors. It also lists one third-gender elector in Siaha district, though district election officials later said the entry was a computing error and that the district has no transgender or third-gender voter.Addressing a news conference, Gupta said 39,243 names had been added and 32,280 deleted from the draft roll, which had 8,28,906 electors. The final electorate represents a 0.84% increase over the draft roll.The third phase of the SIR exercise began across Mizoram’s 11 districts on May 20, along with 16 states and two Union territories, following instructions from Election Commission of India. During the claims and objections period, which ended on Sept 2, officials processed applications under forms 6, 7 and 8 and scrutinised enumeration forms submitted by voters.Tuichawng assembly constituency in Lawngtlai district recorded the highest number of electors at 37,236, while West Tuipui in neighbouring Lunglei district had the lowest, at 14,667.Aizawl North-I recorded the largest increase, with 1,394 electors added to its draft roll. West Tuipui saw the sharpest decline, with 1,800 names removed.Aizawl North-II recorded the highest gender ratio, with 1,221 female electors for every 1,000 male electors. West Tuipui, which has a sizeable Chakma population, recorded the lowest ratio at 848 females per 1,000 male electors.CEO’s office thanked voters, political parties, NGOs and the media for their cooperation and acknowledged the role of district election officials, electoral registration officers, assistant electoral registration officers and booth-level officers in completing the revision exercise.
