Aizawl: The opposition Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday urged the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) govt to review its decision to make the MizoTaxi application mandatory for taxi and auto-rickshaw operators, alleging irregularities and favouritism in the rollout. In a statement, the MPCC said it was “difficult to understand” why the govt directed drivers to adopt the app while warning that additional taxi permits would be issued if they refused. The party appealed to the govt to reconsider the policy. The Congress said it suspected “underhand dealings” between the Transport minister and the app’s developers, claiming the platform could harm the livelihoods of taxi and auto-rickshaw operators while serving private interests. The MPCC also questioned how the application was selected, alleging the State Transport Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a newly established firm without inviting quotations or floating a tender. It said the process violated established norms and could open the door to financial irregularities. The party further argued that if the application involves the collection of Goods and Services Tax (GST) from users, the proposal should have been placed before either the State Cabinet or the Legislative Assembly for approval. It alleged the State Transport Authority exceeded its powers by proceeding without such approval.
