Varanasi: The Varanasi Police recovered a missing 17-year-old boy from Simdega district of Jharkhand on Monday evening, nearly two weeks after he left home on a bicycle and later boarded a truck heading towards Odisha.The action was taken on the directions of police commissioner Mohit Agarwal after information was received on Aug 1 regarding the minor’s disappearance from the city’s Badagaon police station area.A joint team of the SOG, Surveillance Cell and Badagaon Police was formed and tasked with tracing and safely recovering the child. The team examined CCTV footage, call details, and other technical as well as human intelligence inputs.During the investigation, police received a lead indicating the minor’s location in the Simdega police station area of Jharkhand, close to the Jharkhand-Odisha border.The Varanasi Police team coordinated with the local police in Simdega and recovered the minor safely from the area.During questioning, the minor said he was upset due to circumstances at home and had left in search of work to help improve his family’s financial condition. He had initially left home on a bicycle and later boarded a truck heading towards Odisha. The boy told police that he had been staying with the truck drivers throughout this period.On Monday, the family met the police commissioner and expressed emotional gratitude for the swift action. They said the timely intervention by police saved their child from possible danger and from falling into the wrong hands.The police commissioner appreciated the efforts of the SOG, Surveillance Cell and Badagaon Police team. He also spoke to the minor, explained the serious consequences of leaving home without informing the family, and advised him not to take such a step again. The family was also encouraged to maintain communication and provide emotional support to the child.
