Bengaluru: A 15-year-old girl who had been reported kidnapped in Odisha was rescued by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Yelahanka railway station Tuesday.According to the RPF, a special team spotted the minor at around 10:20 a.m. near the end of Platform No. 1. Finding her behaviour suspicious, the personnel approached her for questioning.“On seeing the team, she appeared nervous and confused. Our personnel stopped her and, during the interaction, she disclosed her name, address and other details,” said an RPF officer.Identified as a resident of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, the girl told the team that she had run away from her home last Saturday and reached Yelahanka three days later.The RPF contacted the girl’s father, who is expected to arrive in Bengaluru later this week. He had registered a kidnapping complaint at a police station in Rairangpur district under Section 137(2).However, during questioning, the girl denied that she had been kidnapped. She was subsequently handed over to a care home. Officials said she is currently being counselled, and the exact reason behind her leaving home is yet to be ascertained.“We are still counselling her. The exact reason why she left her home is yet to be found out. The girl told us that she did it by mistake,” a District Child Protection Unit worker said.Sources said the girl will be handed back to her family after hearings by the child welfare committee.
