Srinagar, Sep 20: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Sunday welcomed the participation of around 2,800 boys and girls from maktabs across Jammu and Kashmir in a Grand Seerah Competition held at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the programme, Mirwaiz said it was heartening to see the Jama Masjid filled with children eager to learn about the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
He appreciated Maktab Maseeh-ul-Ummah and the Mirwaiz Foundation for organising the event, saying such initiatives were important to connect the younger generation with the values of faith, compassion, good character and service to humanity.
“At a time when our children and youth are facing many social, emotional and moral challenges, it is extremely important that they remain connected with the Seerah of the Prophet, which offers guidance for every aspect of life,” he said.
On the proposal before the government to examine a five-day school week in Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz welcomed the move and said the wellbeing of children should remain central to the education system.
He said children needed time not only for studies but also to rest, spend time with their families, play and grow in a healthy and balanced environment. He stressed that their mental health and overall wellbeing should remain at the heart of education.
Mirwaiz congratulated the participating children, teachers, parents and organisers and expressed hope that such initiatives would continue to promote knowledge, good character and a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings among the younger generation.
