Hyderabad: Four days after an Intermediate student delivered a stillborn at an examination centre in Khammam, another similar incident came to light on Wednesday, this time from Nagarkurnool.The girl and the newborn are currently undergoing treatment at a govt hospital .According to A Ramesh, district education officer of Nagarkurnool, the incident took place on Tuesday. The minor had just returned to her hostel room after writing her Intermediate exam when she complained of severe stomach pain. “Immediately, her parents were informed. They rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was advised to undergo a scan to ascertain the cause of the pain. We were later told that the 16-year-old delivered the baby at the scanning centre,” the DEO added.The girl is a first-year Intermediate student at a govt-run residential institute in Nagarkurnool. Her parents as well as the college staff claimed they were unaware of the teen’s pregnancy.“During our preliminary enquiry, the staff at the residential college said they had no knowledge about the student being pregnant. We are now conducting a detailed enquiry to get to the bottom of the issue,” said Ramesh.Local police, meanwhile, filed a POCSO case and launched a probe into the matter. “We were informed soon after the student delivered the baby. A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, since it involves a minor. Further investigation is underway,” confirmed a police official, adding that it is yet to be ascertained who impregnated the teenager.
