Bengaluru: A relative of housing minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan is among two men arrested by police for stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 1.13 crore from the minister’s residence on Station Road near Bangalore Cantonment railway station. Police identified the accused as Ameer Ahmed, 48, a resident of Govindapura, and Syed Ameen Ahmed, 48, a resident of Mathikere. Ameer is a relative of Khan’s mother, and he was a frequent visitor to the house, police said. He gained the family’s trust by doing work that Khan’s mother required. He had access to her bedroom. Whenever she wanted something, she used to call him, take out money from her cupboard and give it to him.Ameer noticed the gold ornaments in the cupboard and conspired to steal them. During his visits, he started stealing the gold ornaments. Police received a complaint about the theft on April 15 from Khan’s mother. The gold ornaments, received as wedding gifts and purchased through savings, were kept in a cupboard in her room. Upon checking the stock, she said, about 1.3 kg of gold ornaments were missing. She told police that she suspected Ameer of the theft.Police detained Ameer the next day. He confessed to committing the theft and said he had pledged the ornaments through Syed to a gold finance comany and a jewellery shop in Mathikere and Kammagondanahalli.Police said they had recovered 759 grams of gold from the duo.
