Ramgarh: The 40th four-day Regional Mine Rescue Competition of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) got underway at the Mine Rescue Station (MRS) in Naisarai, Ramgarh, with 13 rescue teams from various CCL areas showcasing their preparedness for emergency response during mining accidents.The annual competition is aimed at assessing and enhancing the operational readiness of mine rescue personnel tasked with protecting lives and property during emergencies in coal mines.Events include rescue relay races, statutory tests, first-aid practicals and rescue-recovery exercises. The rescue-recovery event is being conducted in an underground coal mine at Bhurkunda under CCL’s Barka-Sayal area.Teams from Barka-Sayal, Argada, Kuju, Hazaribag, Dhori, Kathara, Magadh-Sanghamitra, North Karanpura, JMS Churi, Amrapali-Chandragupta, Piparwar and Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) are participating in the competition. The opening day featured team reporting and a rescue relay race by the host Mine Rescue Station team, followed by a ceremonial parade on Tuesday. The competition will conclude on Sept 24, when the winning teams will be felicitated at Sangam Auditorium at CCL headquarters in Ranchi.CCL general manager (Safety & Rescue) Binod Kumar said, “The competition helps keep rescue teams battle-ready for mine emergencies through rigorous training and skill assessment. Trained rescue personnel play a crucial role in minimising loss of life and property during mining accidents.”Established in 1992, the Mine Rescue Station at Ramgarh has artificial and concrete underground mine facilities for training rescue personnel. The station also maintains emergency response teams that can be deployed immediately during mining accidents, officials said.
