Thiruvananthapuram: Milma has sought govt approval to increase the price of its milk by Rs 4 per litre and is expected to implement the hike once clearance is granted. The decision was taken after reviewing the report of an expert committee appointed to study the need for a price revision. Dairy development Minister J Chinjurani had earlier stated that the govt would consider a price hike if Milma submitted a formal request. However, the govt is of the view that increasing milk prices just days before the elections could trigger public resentment. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has conveyed this concern to minister Chinjurani. In this context, Milma’s move to raise prices, citing support for dairy farmers, is currently under consideration.
