Gorakhpur: A dramatic social media post alleging the kidnapping of a woman sparked a late-night police chase across Gorakhpur on Saturday, but the frantic search ended with an unexpected discovery — the woman was not being abducted but was being rushed to a hospital after suffering severe abdominal pain.The video, tagged to the official X handles of Uttar Pradesh Police and Gorakhpur Police around midnight, showed a woman screaming inside a moving van and repeatedly sticking her head out of the window. The person who uploaded the clip claimed she was being abducted and raised concerns about her safety.Treating the alert as an emergency, the Cantt police launched an immediate search and spent nearly two hours tracking down the vehicle.

Using its registration number, officers identified the owner and contacted those travelling in it.The investigation revealed that the group was returning from Kushinagar when Vimlesh Shakya, wife of Rahul Shakya, developed acute abdominal pain. As the driver sped towards the nearest hospital, the woman cried out in agony, prompting onlookers to suspect foul play.According to CO Cantt Abha Singh, the police verified the facts through video calls with the driver and other passengers. Doctors at Navya Clinic on Ayodhya Road also confirmed that the woman had been brought there for medical treatment.Police said no kidnapping or any other criminal activity had taken place. After receiving treatment, the family resumed its journey to Mainpuri at around 3 am.
