Srinagar, July 30: The Meteorological Centre (MET) Srinagar has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days, with the possibility of heavy to torrential rainfall in parts of the Jammu division, prompting a warning of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to the forecast, July 30 and 31 are likely to witness one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at most places, mainly during the afternoon, evening and early morning hours. Brief intense heavy showers and torrential rain are expected at a few places in the Jammu division.
On August 1, scattered places across the Union Territory may receive a spell of light rain or brief thundershowers accompanied by intense showers.
From August 2 to 4, the weather department has predicted a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, with heavy rain, intense showers and torrential rainfall likely over a few districts of the Jammu division.
The MET Centre said light to moderate rain and thundershowers are also likely at scattered places between August 5 and 7, with brief intense showers at isolated locations.
In its advisory, the department warned that heavy rain and brief intense showers are likely in parts of the Jammu division on July 30 and 31, and again on August 2 and 3. It also cautioned that torrential rain may trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
The weather department has advised the public to remain vigilant and follow advisories issued by the administration.
