Govt introduced AI Certification Fee Security Scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in HEIs across the state, under which, students will be empowered with world-class AI skills to enhance their employability, besides developing AI-trained human resources in state. Rs 10 crore was allocated under this head.

Lucknow: Addressing mental health crises at higher education institutions (HEIs), state govt on Wednesday came up with a uniform ‘Student Mental Health and Well-being Policy’ and with budgetary provision of Rs 14.5 crore for it.

The policy aims to ensure every student got inclusive, safe and supportive environment, free of stress. The policy comes in light of SC’s intervention on deteriorating mental health of students in premier institutions.

Rs 10 crore was allocated under this head.

In a first, govt decided to provide cashless medical facilities to teachers of regular and self-financed courses working in state universities, aided and self-finance colleges, for which, Rs 20 crore was allocated in financial year 2026-2027.

The state will see newly founded Swami Sukhdevanand University in Shahjahanpur and Kashi Naresh University in Bhadohi and govt made provision of Rs 21 crore for each.

Higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay said, “Budget will aid UP in becoming a hub of higher education. It is a significant step towards making UP a developed state based on knowledge, innovation and youth power.”
