Times News NetworkKanpur: Members of the Muslim community in the city will celebrate Barawafat, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad on Wednesday. The celebrations beginning from Tuesday night, will conclude on Wednesday with the taking out of a hugel procession in the city.Also known as Barawafat, Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month of Islamic calendar.The city is being decked up for the occasion at prominent crossings and even the narrow lanes of the city. Huge temporary gates have been erected at the crossings in Muslim areas like Jajmau, Talaq Mahal, Rajbi Road, Shutarkhana, Nawabganj, Babu Purwa, Parade. Streets have been decorated with frills, LED bulbs and jhumars for the day.Muslims recite ‘Naats’ in praise of Prophet Muhammad and also offer prayers at mosques throughout the night.Maulana Maroof said that Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is considered an important day in the history of Islam as Prophet Muhammad was born on the 12th day of this month. The Sultans of the Fatimid dynasty in 11th century started observing this festival in Egypt, four centuries after the death of Prophet Muhammad and since then it is being observed throughout the world .Eid Milad-un-Nabi is also called Barawafat because Prophet Muhammad coincidentally bid farewell to this world on this very day in the month of Rabi al Awwal, the maulana aid.
