Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya on May 5 issued notice to parties concerned on a petition filed by the state govt a day earlier, challenging the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi in the case related to the murder of her husband Raja at Sohra (Cherrapunji) a year ago.The matter is expected to be heard by the HC inext week.Sonam was granted conditional bail on April 27 by the court of additional DC (judicial), Shillong, Dashalene R. Kharbteng, citing procedural lapses. The court said police did not adequately inform the accused about the specific section of the BNS under which she was arrested. The state govt has maintained that Sonam was aware of the grounds of her arrest and submitted supporting documents in court seeking revocation of the bail.Sonam is the prime accused in the murder of the Indore-based transport businessman, with the then newly wedded couple, ostensibly, on a ‘honeymoon vacation’ to the wettest place on earth.Raja went missing on May 23, after which Meghalaya Police, along with central agencies, launched an extensive search operation. His decomposed body was recovered from a deep gorge near a waterfall below the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang under Sohra Civil Sub Division on June 2 last year.Sonam and four other ‘co-conspirators’, including her alleged paramour Raj Kushwaha, Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi and Vishal Singh Chauhan, were arrested from different locations in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in June, 2025.
