Shillong: Meghalaya assembly’s autumn session begins Monday as the opposition prepares to raise law and order and environmental issues.The five-day session ends Aug 28, with three govt business and two private members’ days.The MDA govt is expected to move a resolution opposing uranium mining.The Trinamool Congress and Voice of the People Party are expected to raise Shillong’s law-and-order situation and environmental concerns.The East Khasi Hills administration denied the Khasi Students’ Union permission for a Monday sit-in near U Kiang Nongbah’s statue at Civil Point to press the govt on its five-point demands.“The commitment of the district administration is to ensure safety and security to the residents of Shillong and the district,” deputy commissioner Abhilash Baranwal asserted. He said central security forces would remain deployed as required.Deputy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar said the city was normal after vandalism and assaults during the Aug 19 KSU bike rally.
