DHARMAPURI: The Dharmapuri district police on Wednesday arrested three men, including a medical shop owner, on charges of supplying narcotic tablets near Aruneshwarar temple foothills in Karimangalam.The arrested have been identified as V Poovarasan, 25, of Agaram Pattakaralli village in Krishnagiri district, Siddiq,25, son of Barkat, of Power House Colony in Krishnagiri, Dr Nawaz Basha,33, a physiotherapist who ran a medical store in Krishnagiri.Acting on a tip-off about drug sales, officers maintained surveillance and detained Poovarasan after finding him loitering suspiciously. Police recovered banned tablets that were used as painkillers for cancer patients from him.Further investigations indicated that Poovarasan had obtained the tablets from Siddiq. Police traced the supply chain to Dr Nawaz Basha who ran the medical store in Krishnagiri and distributed the tablets. They seized 100 narcotic tablets packed in 10 sachets and two syringes from Siddiq.An officer at the Karimangalam police station said the team had acted on credible information and caught the suspects red-handed. “A case was registered against all three under NDPS Act, and strict action would follow,” the officer said.They were remanded in judicial custody.
