KARUR: Media personnel from various media houses were denied entry into the main area of the venue in Karur on Friday, where chief minister C Joseph Vijay is scheduled to address a public meeting. This came despite passes being issued to media personnel late on Thursday night. On arriving at the venue, TVK volunteers and SP DN Hari Kiran Prasad asked the media to leave, claiming there were police orders not to allow them into the main venue. The volunteers said the passes had been issued due to a miscommunication and that it was a “private” event.Similar restrictions were imposed in Trichy in June, when the chief minister made his first public address after assuming office. However, following several rounds of discussions, the media was eventually allowed entry. This is the chief minister’s first visit to Karur after the stampede. He is scheduled to address a public meeting and later meet the families of the victims of the Karur stampede. He will also hand over government job appointment orders to eligible family members at the Karur dstrict collectorate.
