Pune: A 21-year-old second-year MBBS student from Hyderabad died after falling from the terrace of a nine-storey private hostel building in the city’s Dhankawadi area around Wednesday noon.Preliminary police probe indicated that it was a case of suicide, with officers citing exam-related stress as a possible factor. “We inspected the spot and examined circumstances that might have led to the incident,” senior inspector Sudarshan Gaikwad of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station said.The student and her brother, a medical graduate, were staying together in a rented room at the private hostel for the last two years. “Around noon, she had gone to the terrace of the building. We suspect she jumped from the railing. She fell into the building’s parking area, where passersby and residents noticed her and alerted the police control room,” Gaikwad said.“”We learnt during investigation that no one was on the terrace at the time of the incident. Later in the day, her brother and friends told us that she was stressed because of the ongoing annual examinations,” Gaikwad said.The officer said police searched her room, but did not find any suicide note. “We have seized her laptop and cellphone for probe. An accidental death report was registered after the autopsy at Sassoon General Hospital,” he said.TOI attempted to speak to her friends, who said they were not in a state of mind to talk.
