Ahmedabad: After a week of relentless heat that saw the mercury consistently breach the 40°C mark, Ahmedabad has finally caught a momentary, if still warm, breather. On Monday, the city’s maximum temperature settled at 37.7°C, falling back from Sunday’s 38.4°C.However, “cool” remains a relative term. While the peak intensity has softened, Monday’s maximum was still 2.6 degrees above the seasonal normal. The nights offered some relief, with the minimum temperature of 22.6°C, but it still was 3.5 degrees higher than typical for mid-March.The city wasn’t alone in its sweltering state. Rajkot claimed the title of Gujarat’s “hot spot” at 38.3°C, followed closely by Surendranagar at 37.8°C and Bhuj and Ahmedabad at 37.7°C. According to the India meteorological department (IMD), Tuesday will likely be a carbon copy of Monday, keeping the city in a holding pattern of unseasonable warmth. But for those weary of the glare, relief is on the horizon. The IMD predicts a gradual cooling trend across Gujarat, with daytime temperatures expected to dip by another 2-3 degrees over the next four days.
