The Goa Masters Women Volleyball Association (GMWVA) celebrated World Volleyball Day with a gathering of women players at Colva beach on Tuesday

Panaji: The Goa Masters Women Volleyball Association (GMWVA) celebrated World Volleyball Day with a gathering of women players at Colva beach on Tuesday. Although the friendly game could not be played due to heavy winds and rain, the true spirit of the sport shone through.Players arrived with great enthusiasm from different parts of Goa and worked together to prepare the beach court by erecting the volleyball nets and marking the playing area. After warming up and eagerly anticipating the first serve, the weather suddenly changed as strong winds swept across the beach, followed by heavy rain, making it unsafe to continue.“While the match had to be abandoned, the evening turned into a celebration of camaraderie, teamwork and shared memories,” said Kennedy D’Silva, advisor to GMWVA. “Players spent quality time together, catching up with old friends, encouraging one another, taking photographs and enjoying the fellowship that volleyball has created over the years.”Betty D’Silva, president of the association said the weather prevented them from playing, but could not dampen the spirit.“Volleyball is not only about winning matches; it is about friendship, unity and the joy of being together. Today reminded us that the bonds we have built through sport are stronger than the rain,” said Betty, one of Goa’s most accomplished volleyball players. The association said it will organise a beach volleyball tournament for women on August 15 giving all players the opportunity to enjoy the game they love.
