Kanpur: A massive fire broke out at a scrap warehouse in Kidwai Nagar police station area of Kanpur in the early hours of Tuesday. The blaze spread rapidly and engulfed the entire warehouse in a short span of time, though no injury or casualty was reported in the fire.According to local residents, smoke was first noticed emanating from the warehouse at around 5am. Thick black smoke billowing from the site was visible from nearly one kilometre away, causing alarm in nearby localities.Spotting the towering flames, residents immediately informed the fire department. A fire brigade team from Kidwai Nagar fire station reached the spot, followed by additional units from Fazalganj, Mirpur and Jajmau fire stations as the intensity of the blaze increased.Around 25 fire personnel launched a coordinated firefighting operation to control the fire. Officials said the blaze was brought completely under control after strenuous efforts lasting more than two hours. To tackle the fire, firefighters broke the side and rear walls of the warehouse using iron rods to create openings through which water could be directed into the interior. Water was then sprayed continuously through pipes from multiple points, helping to contain and eventually extinguish the flames.Chief fire officer Deepak Sharma said, “After an operation of about two hours, the blaze was brought under control.
