Kanpur: A massive fire broke out due to a short circuit at a car garage near Eidgah Crossing in the Bajaria police station area of the City on Friday night, causing heavy property damage. No casualties were reported.The fire gradually engulfed two adjacent shops. Two powerful explosions in a car caused the fire to intensify further. The flames reached four pucca houses in the adjoining settlement, destroying residents’ belongings worth thousands of rupees. The fire reduced six cars parked in two shops and the household belongings of four houses to ashes.On the left side of the road leading from Eidgah Crossing to Brahmanagar, there were about 10 car garages and auto parts shops. At around 11 O’clock, a short circuit triggered a fire at Aqeel’s Janta Motors Repairing Centre. Within moments, the fire spread across the entire garage and engulfed the adjacent Sunrise Motors Repairing Centre, where cars and goods also began burning intensely.Car fuel tanks exploded one after another, sending flames high enough to reach the settlement and triggering panic among residents. The belongings stored on the rooftops of four to five residents were burnt in the fire.ACP (Sisamau) and police force from five police stations sealed the road to make way for eight fire engines.Chief Fire Officer Deepak Sharma deployed eight fire engines and, with police assistance, cleared the road, surrounded the settlement and shops, and began dousing the fire. After more than two hours of effort, the blaze was completely brought under control.The CFO said that the incident was caused by a short circuit and that it was controlled in time with no loss of life.
