Gurgaon: A 55-year-old mason, Hazari Lal, died on Thursday after falling from a height of about 20 feet while carrying out work at Lal Ji Packaging Company in a factory in Sector 7, IMT Manesar on July 30. He was employed through contractor Bachchu Singh.In her complaint, Hazari Lal’s daughter Preeti alleged that her father was made to work without adequate safety arrangements.Lal was initially admitted to a private hospital in Sector 8, IMT Manesar, before being shifted to a hospital in Civil Lines and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment.When police reached the hospital, they could not record the statement as the doctor declared him unfit on July 30, as well as on the following days at Civil Lines hospital.According to the complaint, he succumbed to his injuries on Aug 5 at Safdarjung Hospital. Police registered a case under Section 106(1) (causing death due to negligence) of the BNS on Aug 5 and are investigating the allegations of inadequate safety measures at the construction site.Separately, a labourer, Awadhesh Kumar, suffered serious injuries after a cement brick fell from the seventh floor of an under-construction building and struck him while he was working at an SS Group construction site in Sector 83. He was later admitted to Silver Streak Hospital in Sector 87.Awadhesh’s wife filed a complaint at Kherki Daula Police Station on Aug 5, alleging that the accident resulted from negligence on the part of the construction company and its contractors. She sought legal action against those responsible for failing to ensure workers’ safety at the site.Police examined the complaint along with the victim’s medico-legal case (MLC) report and registered a case on Wednesday under sections 125B (causing grievous hurt to a person by acting so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or personal safety) and 290 (negligent or reckless conduct during the construction, repair or demolition of buildings that endangers human life) of the BNS.Police are now examining whether lapses in workplace safety and construction protocols led to the accident.
