Mohali: In a brazen robbery, a gas agency employee was robbed of approximately Rs 3.5 lakh by two masked assailants who opened fire to terrorise the victim near Peer Sohana in the Kharar area on Thursday afternoon.According to police, the accused, riding a motorcycle, intercepted the victim and his associate before fleeing with the cash. The incident triggered panic in the locality and raised concerns over law and order in the area. Kharar DSP Karan Singh Sandhu said statements of the victims have been recorded and CCTV footage from nearby locations is being analysed. He added that a case of robbery along with provisions of the Arms Act will be registered against unidentified persons. As per initial information, Vipin, an employee at the warehouse of Pansup Gas Agency, was carrying cash on his motorcycle and was accompanied by an acquaintance, Dharampal. The duo reportedly collected around Rs 3.5 lakh and were on their way when the incident occurred. Near Peer Sohana, two masked men on another motorcycle approached them from behind and allegedly struck Vipin with the butt of a pistol. When both victims attempted to resist, the accused fired a shot in the air, causing panic in the area. Eyewitnesses said the attackers then fired another shot towards the ground near the victims’ feet, forcing them to back off. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused snatched the bag containing cash and sped away from the spot. Police from Sadar Kharar police station reached the scene soon after receiving information and initiated an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby establishments is being scanned to identify and trace the accused. Police have registered a case against unidentified assailants under relevant sections of the BNS and Arms Act at Kharar Sadar police station.
