NEW DELHI: Two masked men riding a scooter allegedly opened fire at two men outside a cafe near Karkardooma Community Centre in east Delhi, firing around 15 rounds and injuring both victims, police said on Friday.One of the injured, Md Irshad, told news agency PTI that he and the other victim had stepped out of the cafe around 1.30 am when the two masked men approached them on a scooter and opened fire.“I tried to run away but one bullet struck me,” Irshad said, adding that the attackers fired around 15 gunshots.Irshad sustained a gunshot injury and was initially taken to Hedgewar Hospital by his father. He was later referred to GTB Hospital for further treatment.“I don’t know what happened. I only came to know of it when he called me and said, ‘Papa mujhe goli lag gayi hai’ (Dad, I got shot). I took him to Hedgewar, after which he was referred to GTB,” Irshad’s father Md Asir said.The other victim, identified as Afsar, a resident of Ghaziabad, sustained four gunshot injuries, while Irshad, a resident of Old Seelampur, was also injured in the firing, police said.Police received information about the admission of the two injured men at Hedgewar Hospital.Both men had sustained gunshot wounds and were in stable condition, police said.A case has been registered at Anand Vihar police station and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the attackers, police said.The motive behind the firing is yet to be ascertained. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to piece together the sequence of events and identify the accused.(With agency inputs)
