Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Marc T. Campopiano has joined the firm’s Environment, Energy & Resources practice as a partner in San Diego.

Marc represents real estate developers, energy companies, transmission line developers, utilities on large and master-planned communities, major renewable and traditional power projects, large-scale transmission lines, energy storage facilities, gas pipelines, and energy transition matters.

Clients look to Marc to navigate the complex approval pathways for large-scale projects that frequently require multiple complicated permits from different agencies. Marc has parlayed his background as an environmental consultant to gain expertise in a range of technical matters, including wildfire, climate change, and air quality, health risks, and cultural resources.

Marc advises clients on all aspects of satisfying environmental review requirements in the state of California and throughout the U.S., including under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Marc has guided clients through high-profile matters before local, state, and federal agencies, such as the Bureau of Land Management, California Public Utilities Commission, California Energy Commission, cities and counties, and frequently advises on a variety of environmental laws, such as the California Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act, Clean Air Act, Subdivision Map Act, and Housing Accountability Act.

“Clients in the real estate, energy, and utility sectors are navigating a rapidly shifting regulatory landscape as a result of the infrastructure demands of the energy transition,” said Meredith Weinberg, chair of the firm’s Environment, Energy & Resources practice. “Marc’s flexibility across environmental, energy, and commercial projects involving both renewable and conventional power generation will be a tremendous asset to our firm.”

“Marc is a recognized leader in Southern California and brings a rare combination of experience across energy and infrastructure projects for both large-scale mixed use and residential developments,” said Patrick McKeever, San Diego office managing partner. “The intersection of energy, real estate, and environmental regulation is where some of the most complex projects are happening right now, and his experience strengthens our ability to serve clients across the region and beyond.”

Marc was most recently a partner in the environment, land, and resources practice of a global law firm and previously served as the local chair of that practice, advising clients on obtaining approvals for some of the highest profiles projects in California and other states.

“Perkins Coie’s depth in environmental and energy matters and full-service platform, along with its strong California presence, will be immensely beneficial for my practice and clients,” Marc said. “I’m thrilled to collaborate with the firm’s deep bench of lawyers, many of whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the past, on impactful energy and infrastructure projects and look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued growth.”

Marc earned his Bachelor of Arts from UCLA and his Juris Doctorate degree from UC Berkeley School of Law. He also holds a Master of Environmental Science & Management from UC Santa Barbara.
