T’puram: A migrant worker from West Bengal died after marble slabs fell on him while being unloaded from a container lorry near Akkulam on Thursday evening. The deceased has been identified as Abhijit Burman, 32. The incident occurred while workers were unloading marble slabs from a container vehicle parked along the roadside. During the process, a stack of slabs suddenly lost balance and toppled onto the workers.Burman sustained critical injuries in the mishap and was soon rushed to medical college hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Two other injured workers were admitted to a private hospital and are undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.Burman’ body has been shifted to MCH mortuary and will be handed over to relatives after autopsy procedures.Pettah police registered a case and are examining whether adequate safety measures were in place during the unloading process.
