Chennai: DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran lashed out at Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday stating that those maintain silence about Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu dam project even during their visit to Tamil Nadu were “betrayers” of Tamil people. In an apparent response to Rahul Gandhi’s statement in Chennai on Saturday that those who do not oppose delimitation were `Ettappan,’ a historical character associated with betrayal, Maran said it was Congress which had betrayed the rights of Tamil Nadu.“Those who come to Tamil Nadu but do not speak about Tamil Nadu’s rights over the Cauvery are traitors. Those who do not oppose the Mekedatu dam, are traitors,’’ Maran said in an X post.Cotinuing his attack on Congress, Maran said those who do not demand the scrapping of the NEET examination itself, but speak only about irregularities in the exam, were traitors.“Those who condemn the BJP’s horse-trading but turn a blind eye to similar act by TVK was betrayal,’’ he said adding that “refusal to condemn the fascist TVK govt, which arrests people criticising the administration’ was also the extension of that betrayal of people.“The height of betrayal was not to condemn the Tamil Nadu police for cracking down on students protesting against NEET, while criticising Delhi Police,’’ he said.Meanwhile, former DMK MLA I Paranthamen urged the TVK govt to immediately seek the constitution of a fresh tribunal under the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956, to prevent Karnataka from proceeding with the proposed Mekedatu dam project.
