SALEM: The relatives of Suraj, 37, a guest worker from Maharashtra who died after fainting during a TVK meeting in Salem on Friday, accepted his boy on Saturday afternoon after the party assured financial assistance to his kin. They had earlier refused to accept his body which was kept in the mortuary of the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital after postmortem. They demanded that party leader Vijay provide financial assistance to his kin.TVK Salem district secretary A Parthiban met the relatives and promised to cover the family’s expenses, including the educational expenses of Suraj’s two children. Parthiban arranged an ambulance to transport the body to Maharashtra.Suraj fainted while attending the TVK meeting at a private ground on the Seelanaickenpatti bypass road here. A medical team provided him first aid. As his condition was critical, he was taken to a private hospital. But he died on the way. The reason for his death will be known only after the postmortem report is out. Suraj had lived in Salem for 20 years and worked at a silver workshop. He is survived by his wife Priyanka, 32, a 10-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
