Vadodara: Manjalpur will vote on July 30 to elect a new MLA after the death of veteran BJP leader Yogesh Patel The election commission has enforced the model code of conduct in the constituency with immediate effect.Voting for the Manjalpur assembly seat will be held on July 30, the chief electoral officer announced on Thursday.Candidates can file nominations until July 13. Scrutiny of nominations will follow, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until July 16. The results will be declared on Aug 3.The bypoll was necessitated by the death of Manjalpur MLA Yogesh Patel on June 2 after a prolonged illness. He was 79.An eight-time BJP MLA and a minister of state in the Vijay Rupani-led Gujarat govt, Patel was among Vadodara’s longest-serving legislators.He represented the Raopura constituency five times between 1990 and 2007 before shifting to the newly created Manjalpur seat after delimitation.Patel went on to win the Manjalpur seat in the 2012, 2017 and 2022 assembly elections, completing eight consecutive victories in Gujarat assembly elections over a political career spanning 36 years.
