Bengaluru: City police arrested a 49-year-old man for allegedly setting a cowshed in DJ Halli, eastern part of city on fire, resulting in the death of five cows on the intervening night of April 6 and April 7.Accused is Mohammed Imran, resident of KG Halli. A daily wage worker, Imran lives alone. “Roaming around KG Halli and DJ Halli areas at night, Imran would set garbage heaps on fire whenever and wherever he sees them,” an officer said. However, the fire Imran set on the particular night did not end in destroying the garbage heap. Instead, it extended to a cowshed and two furniture shops, charring five cows to death and injuring three more. Also, one mini-goods vehicle and four two-wheelers parked outside the establishments were also partially gutted.Based on the complaint filed by the owner of the cows, Srinivas, police registered a case and launched a manhunt. Scoring on digital evidence, including CCTV footage, and collecting information from local residents, cops arrested Imran. “He claims that it was not an intentional act and he never intended to kill the cows. But we told him that it was a callous act that ended on a sad note,” an investigating officer said.
