A team from Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs department arrested on Sunday a man at Ahmedabad airport for sneaking in 601.9g of 24-carat gold with a market value of over Rs 96 lakh, officers said. Nearly half of the contraband, about 278g, was concealed in the passenger’s underwear in the form of gold paste.Based on intelligence developed through passenger profiling, officers of the AIU, Ahmedabad Customs, intercepted the passenger arriving from Dubai. “On examination, the passenger was found concealing two gold bars and one cut gold bar, weighing 324.1g with 24 carat purity, with a market value of Rs 51.7 lakh, concealed inside his pocket purse,” a Customs release stated.
