Gurgaon: The driver of an Ertiga was killed after a Creta allegedly rammed into it, throwing 48-year-old Chandar over the railings of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Sohna. He fell 30 feet and sustained fatal injuries.The Ertiga was parked with its lights on, but the driver of the Creta either didn’t see it or had lost control. Chandar was standing a few metres ahead of the car. The Ertiga lurched into him after the collision, sending him flying over the railings, according to Chandar’s employer Naresh Malik (51), who too had alighted but escaped unhurt.The incident took place near Sancholi village on Tuesday evening. Naresh told TOI that the latter fell onto the road below. Passersby rushed to help and the injured driver was taken to Civil Hospital, Sohna, where doctors declared him dead.Chandar, a resident near Dayanand School, Patli Gate in Palwal, had been working with Naresh for the past eight years.Naresh, who works with a private engineering company in Udyog Vihar Phase-4, said they were returning to Palwal from his office on Aug 4 in Ertiga (HR-26-FU-9396) when the vehicle developed a technical fault around 7.30pm.According to him, he got out from the rear of the vehicle and stood behind it, while Chandar walked to the front to inspect the engine.“We were about to take the U-turn towards Palwal when our car developed a glitch and stopped in the right lane of the flyover. My driver tried to restart the engine, but it wouldn’t start. We switched on the parking lights and stepped out of the vehicle. Within seconds, I saw a speeding Creta coming towards us. I jumped to one side, but my driver could not see the vehicle approaching. The Creta rammed our car from behind and Chandar fell off the flyover. Our car also moved nearly one metre after the impact and stopped only because of the boundary wall. Otherwise, it too could have fallen off the flyover,” he said.On Aug 5, Naresh submitted a written complaint at Sadar police station, Sohna. Based on his complaint, police registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of BNS. The investigation has been assigned to SI Ahmed Azeem.A police officer said, “The body was handed to the family of the deceased post autopsy on Wednesday. We will soon trace the accused driver as we have already impounded the car which caused the accident. There was also dark in the area where the accident happened.”Chandar is survived by his wife and three daughters, two of whom are pursuing graduation in Palwal.Naresh claimed that there were multiple occupants in the black Hyundai Creta (HR-87-P-4079), but none of them suffered major injuries. Police impounded both the vehicles. In his complaint to police, Naresh alleged that the accident occurred because of the rash and negligent driving of the Creta driver and sought strict legal action against the accused.“They remained at the spot for a few minutes and later called their colleagues, who took them away in another vehicle before police arrived at the spot. They had to leave the Creta behind because it was also damaged in the collision,” he said.Police received information from Govt Hospital, Sohna that Chandar had succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident. Police reached the hospital and shifted the body to the mortuary and informed the family members.
