Chennai: A 16-year-old girl is fighting for life after a stalker stabbed her for resisting his advances. The incident occurred on Sunday near Chidambaram in Cuddalore district.Police, who identified the man as Iyappan, said he was an electrician and often visited the girl’s house at Keezhamoongiladi village for repair work. “It was during these visits that he became infatuated with the Class XI student,” a police officer said. “He approached her many times, and the girl kept turning him down.’’On Sunday, when the girl’s mother had left home for work at a textile shop, Iyappan entered the house knowing the girl was alone.When she turned him down again, he attacked her with a knife, leaving a deep cut on her neck, according to police. He then fled.

On hearing the girl cry out, neighbours rushed to the house and called an ambulance. The girl was taken to the Chidambaram govt hospital, where doctors said she was in a critical state. The Chidambaram Taluk police have registered a case and launched a search for the absconding accused.
