Gurgaon: A 27-year-old man was shot while sleeping on the rooftop of his rented accommodation in Rajiv Colony under Sector 58 police station limits on the night of July 1. His live-in partner has alleged that her estranged husband, who had earlier threatened the couple, orchestrated the attack. The injured, Vipin Yadav, a native of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, suffered a bullet injury and is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.According to police, Yadav and the 26-year-old woman, both from neighbouring villages in Mainpuri district, had known each other in their village and shifted to Faridabad around a month ago. They worked at a private tiffin-making company in Sector 58 and had been living together.Police said several tenants were sleeping on the rooftop because of the heat when an unidentified assailant reached the terrace and opened fire at Yadav before fleeing.“The woman stated in her complaint that she heard a loud noise, after which she woke up. However, the accused had fled by then. None of the people sleeping on the terrace saw the assailant,” an investigating officer said.In her complaint, the woman alleged that her estranged husband, Vijay, had been tracking their movements and had repeatedly threatened to kill Yadav.“The woman was married six years ago. She stated that Vijay was addicted to alcohol and she was subjected to domestic violence. The couple have a five-year-old son. Vipin was also married and divorced his wife two years ago after he came in contact with the woman in the village,” the officer said. She also expressed suspicion that Yadav’s brother, Sunny, could have been involved in the attack.“We are examining her claims,” the officer said.Sector 58 police have registered a case of attempt to murder and launched an investigation. Police are verifying the allegations against the woman’s estranged husband and Yadav’s brother, besides scanning CCTV footage and collecting technical and forensic evidence.Officials said the motive behind the attack would become clear once the assailant and those involved, if any, are identified and questioned.
