Patna: A 26-year-old man was shot dead in Sarthua Khurd village under Khudaganj police station area in Nalanda district on Monday. Police said over seven armed men surrounded Sunny Paswan, son of Devnandan Paswan, while he was on his way to the fields and opened fire.A retired Bihar Police constable, Ganesh, is among the named accused in the FIR lodged in this connection. Police said the motive behind the killing is under investigation, while the victim’s family has alleged that the murder stemmed from an ongoing land dispute.According to Sunny’s brother, Rakhu Kumar, Sunny had left home to work in the fields when he was attacked.“On the way, the miscreants found him at a deserted spot, surrounded him and shot him. When we got the information, we rushed to the spot. Sunny was lying in a pool of blood. We took him to Islamapur Primary Health Centre (PHC), where doctors declared him dead,” Rakhu alleged.Family members claimed Sunny sustained three bullet injuries.Hilsa SDPO-II Rishiraj said police received information about the firing in Sarthua village around 11.30am, following which Khudaganj SHO reached the spot with a police team.The body was sent to a govt hospital for postmortem, the SDPO said.He added that the crime spot has been secured and a forensic science laboratory (FSL) team has been called to collect evidence. Police have registered an FIR against seven named residents of the same village and launched raids to arrest the accused.“Both sides had an ongoing land dispute in the village. The land dispute angle is being investigated along with any previous enmity between the two sides,” the SDPO said.
