New Delhi: A 32-year-old man allegedly shot a woman in the leg before killing himself in northeast Delhi’s Johri Pur Friday morning, police said.The incident was reported around 7.41 am, near Shiv Mandir, under Gokalpuri police station limits.When police reached the spot, the injured woman, Rajwati (48), had already been taken to a hospital. The accused, identified as Neeraj, was found lying in a pool of blood inside a first-floor room, with a revolver lying nearby.Police said the room was bolted from inside. After hearing a gunshot, people reached the room, broke open the door and found him lying on the floor.According to investigators, Rajwati’s family is engaged in selling earthenware. Neeraj had allegedly called her asking for an earthen pot. While she was speaking to him and climbing the staircase, he allegedly shot her in the right leg.Police said preliminary investigation suggested that Neeraj first fired at Rajwati and then shot himself in the head.Rajwati was admitted to hospital with a firearm injury and is undergoing treatment. Neeraj’s body has been sent to GTB Hospital for post-mortem examination.During preliminary verification, police found that the revolver licence was in the name of Neeraj’s father. A forensic team inspected the spot and collected evidence.A case under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered. Further investigation is under way.
