Sasaram: A domestic dispute allegedly over cooking food turned fatal in Kaimur district on Wednesday evening when a man allegedly shot dead his wife before turning the firearm on himself in an apparent suicide attempt. The woman died on the spot, while the accused remains in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Varanasi.According to police, the deceased, identified as Reena Devi (36), wife of Jaihind Singh, was a resident of Baghauta village. The couple had been at loggerheads for nearly a week. The altercation escalated on Wednesday evening, following which Jaihind allegedly opened fire on Reena. Before villagers could reach the spot after hearing gunshots, he allegedly turned the firearm on himself.The couple was rushed to the Adhaura Primary Health Centre (PHC), where doctors declared Reena brought dead. After administering first aid, Jaihind was referred to a higher medical centre, and his family later shifted him to a hospital in Varanasi.The deceased’s son, Ajit Kumar Singh, has accused his father of murdering his mother. In his statement to police, he said the dispute between his parents had erupted over cooking food.Adhaura SHO Atvendra Kumar said police reached the village soon after receiving information and found Reena’s body lying in the courtyard of the house. The body was taken into custody, inquest proceedings were conducted, and it was sent to Bhabua Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. Following the autopsy on Thursday, the body was handed over to the family.Police have launched an investigation and are awaiting the accused’s statement after his condition improves.
