T’puram: A Neyyattinkara fast-track special Pocso court has sentenced a 44-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a girl inside his car after luring her on the pretext of dropping her at school.The court, presided over by Judge K M Suja, convicted Kunjumon, of Chovvara in Kovalam, in connection with the 2015 incident. In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional three years of imprisonment.According to the prosecution, the incident occurred when the survivor was walking to school. The accused allegedly approached her and convinced her to get into his car by claiming that he was acquainted with her mother.The accused allegedly drove to a secluded spot near the school and assaulted the child inside the car.The offence came to light after the survivor informed her class teacher about the incident. Based on the disclosure, a case was registered against the accused and an investigation was launched.The investigation was conducted by the Fort assistant commissioner R Sudhakaran Pillai. Special public prosecutor Poovachal F Vinod and advocate V R Mayadevi appeared for the prosecution.
