Noida: A 34-year-old man was arrested near Sector 117 on Sunday night for allegedly posing as a Delhi Police sub-inspector. Police said the accused Rahul Singh is a resident of Sector 117 and is not a Delhi Police officer but was caught wearing a police uniform and carrying forged identity documents. He allegedly used it as a ruse to throw his weight around, intimidate people and obtain food and other goods free of cost, passing himself off as an officer.A team from Sector 113 police station was patrolling the area around 8.30 pm when it received a tip-off about a man in a Delhi Police sub-inspector’s uniform near the traffic signal on the service road close to Gate No 3 of Sector 117. Officers reached the spot and spotted the suspect, who appeared to notice them and tried to walk away quickly. He was stopped and detained a short distance away.During questioning, Rahul admitted he was not a police officer. He told investigators he had a fascination for wearing police uniforms and had used a Delhi Police uniform and fake identity cards to project himself as an officer, allegedly using the disguise to intimidate shopkeepers and obtain food and other items without paying.Cops found a fake Delhi Police identity card bearing his name and describing him as a sub-inspector of South District during a search. His uniform carried a nameplate reading “Rahul Singh, Sub-Inspector”, Delhi Police insignia and two stars on each shoulder, police said.Police also recovered a Delhi Police cap, more than three sets of purported police identity and smart cards, an Indian Army canteen smart card, two Aadhaar cards, a PAN card, a driving licence, bank ATM and loan cards, an iPhone 17 Pro and a Metro card. A car allegedly belonging to Rahul was found nearby, which he admitted using to reinforce his false identity, police said.Police said they were examining the recovered material to determine whether the accused had used the fake identity for other offences.
