Udupi: A case has been registered by Udupi Town police against four suspects who allegedly swindled Rs 5.7 lakh from a victim by falsely promising him employment as a housekeeping supervisor in the UK.In his complaint, Pushparaj Shetty alleges that prime suspect Ashley Cornelio approached him on Feb 12, 2025, with a fraudulent offer for a housekeeping supervisor position in the UK. Cornelio referred him to an accomplice, Savitha, who requested Rs 1 lakh for visa processing fees. Shetty subsequently transferred Rs 2 lakh to Savitha’s account on March 17, 2025.The third and fourth suspects, Prakruthi and Prashanth, allegedly joined other accused persons and collected money from the complainant on different occasions in the name of medical examination, visa stamping and embassy processing. The accused allegedly collected Rs 5.7 lakh from the complainant and took his passport. The accused reportedly informed the complainant that his visa application had been rejected. Though they assured him that the money and passport would be returned, they stopped responding to calls made by the complainant. The mobile phones of the accused reportedly remained switched off.Following a complaint, Udupi Town police have registered a case under Sections 316(2) and 318 of the BNS.
