Kolkata: If you find an ATM not dispensing cash, do not call up on the helpline numbers pasted on the kiosk walls or the machine, without checking. You could lose your money with such a call. After a year’s gap, the notorious ATM gang seems to be back. It struck at an ATM at Parnasree and siphoned off Rs 2 lakh.According to a case registered at the Parnasree PS on Monday, the complainant visited the public sector bank ATM around 111 am to withdraw Rs 1,000. But the cash did not come out and instead, his ATM card got stuck in the machine. Desperate, he called on the ‘helpline’— 96634-27832—written on the machine. The person on the other side, identified himself as a bank employee, and told the man he could leave, that a technician would go to the spot later, retrieve the card and return it to him. Shortly, the man received messages, notifying the withdrawal of Rs 2 lakhfrom his account.
