Jaipur: A 28-year-old labourer was allegedly murdered and buried in a shallow pit near a riverbank in Chandwaji under Jaipur Rural, with the crime coming to light after villagers spotted part of his body protruding from the soil Sunday.Police identified the deceased as Rakesh Kumar (28), a resident of Harchandpura village under Chandwaji police station limits.According to Jaipur Rural SP Hanuman Prasad Meena, the deceased, worked as a daily-wage labourer, left home on Saturday evening as usual but failed to return by around 8 pm. Concerned family members searched for him throughout the night but could not locate him.At around 8am Sunday, villagers noticed freshly disturbed soil near a riverbank at Kavarpura, about 1.5km from the village. A portion of a body was visible above the ground. On closer inspection, they also found bloodstains at the spot and alerted police.Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased was murdered near the river Saturday night. Police suspect the assailants dug a pit and buried the body at the scene in an attempt to destroy evidence.Investigators believe the accused acted in haste due to darkness and fear of being caught. As a result, they failed to completely cover the body. A part of the victim’s trousers remained visible above the soil, leading to the discovery of the crime.Police said injury marks were found on his’s head and neck, indicating he was assaulted before being killed.A forensic team was called to the spot to collect evidence, and the body was later shifted for post-mortem examination.Police are examining the victim’s recent movements, personal contacts and any possible disputes to establish the motive behind the murder.
