NAMAKKAL: A man suffered serious injuries at Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district on Thursday night after fireworks stored in his house exploded due to sparks from a mosquito bat being charged. The injured man has been identified as M Kandasamy, 73, who runs a petty shop near the Kumarapalayam bus stand. He had stored some unsold fireworks from last year’s Diwali season in an upstairs room of his house. “Sparks erupted from a mosquito bat being charged in the room, igniting the fireworks,” said an officer at the Kumarapalayam police station. Within moments, the entire stock exploded with deafening noise, filling the area with thick smoke.Kandasamy, who was inside the room, sustained severe burn injuries. On being alerted, the Kumarapalayam police and firefighters rushed to the spot. They rescued Kandasamy and rushed him to Erode Government Medical College and Hospital. Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
