Kanpur: Additional sessions judge Kanpur Nagar Subhash Singh on Monday sentenced accused and his parents for dowry death. The judge convicted husband Tirupati Mishra, a resident of Tiwaripur Jajmau to 10 years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 4000, Durgawati, mother of Tirupati Mishra to seven years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 4000, Sri Rang Mishra, father of Tirupati Mishra to 7 years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 4000.The court in its order observed that the period the convicted persons had passed in jail during the trial would be accommodated in the sentence.According to additional district government counsel Bhaskar Mishra, the girl’s father Rajendra Prasad Shukla lodged an FIR alleging that he had married his daughter Ranjana with Tirupati Mishra . When Ranjana returned to his house after about four months on February 7, 2019, she told him that her husband and her in-laws used to torture her and complained of not bringing enough dowry.Rajendra Prasad consoled his daughter Ranjana and stated that everything would be settled soon and deposited Rs 40,000 in her name. He sent Ranjana to her in-laws’ house on January 30, 2020.On February 22, 2020, he received a message from the police station that the dead body of Ranjana had been kept in Kanshiram hospital’s mortuary.Shukla alleged that Ranjana’s husband and in-laws had killed her and hanged her to give the incident a colour of suicide.
