Vadodara: City police detained a Bhayli resident under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (Pasa) Act for allegedly cheating four people of Rs 83 lakh through credit card transactions, investment schemes and promises of supplying gold at below-market rates.The accused, Jitendrasinh Mansinh Rajpurohit, was detained after a PASA warrant was issued against him and was sent to Rajkot Central Jail.According to a prevention of crime branch officer, Rajpurohit is allegedly involved in four cases of cheating and breach of trust registered at Karelibaug, Harni, Fatehgunj and Sayajigunj police stations.In the Karelibaug case, police Rajpurohit allegedly gained the complainant’s trust by promising earnings through credit card transactions. The complainant suffered a loss of Rs 26.61 lakh, including money raised through six credit cards, hand loans and personal loans from six banks.In the Harni case, Rajpurohit allegedly promised to arrange gold at a price lower than the market rate and received Rs 2.09 lakh through an online transfer. Police alleged that he neither supplied the gold nor returned the money.In the Fatehgunj case, he allegedly induced the complainant and a witness to invest money by promising high returns and collected Rs 11.38 lakh, which was not repaid.The Sayajigunj case involved a similar promise to arrange gold at a cheap rate. Police alleged that Rajpurohit collected Rs 43.46 lakh from the complainant, promising to supply the gold within 25 days. He allegedly returned Rs 12 lakh in instalments but neither supplied the gold nor repaid the remaining Rs 31.46 lakh.Police said Rajpurohit had been arrested in these cases earlier but was released on bail. He continued his activities after his release, causing losses to citizens and adversely affecting public order.
