Thiruvananthapuram: A 30-year-old man was arrested by Kottiyam police for allegedly recording intimate videos of his wife and selling them to pornographic websites while the couple was living in the UK. The accused, who went absconding after a case was registered, was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.According to the complaint, he repeatedly recorded private moments involving his wife without her consent and allegedly sold the videos to pornographic websites. The woman also alleged that he installed hidden cameras in the bathroom to record her. When she questioned him about the videos being shared and sold online, he allegedly assaulted her, she told police.The couple had been living in the UK for several years and returned to Kerala on Aug 14. The woman alleged that her husband had shared her private videos with pornographic websites in the UK. She also accused him of being addicted to pornography and said he would frequently record their intimate moments.The woman alleged that her husband forced her to have sexual relation with other men. In her statement she said that he had subjected her to physical assault when she refused to comply with his demands. Unable to bear the alleged abuse, she eventually moved to a friend’s house.She said she later returned to Kerala with her husband hoping that counselling would bring about a change in his behaviour. However, she alleged that the abuse continued even after counselling. During the counselling sessions, he allegedly told her that he was not interested in family life and wanted to live independently, she said in her statement.Pocso invokedThe woman also alleged that he displayed sexual behaviour in front of their four-year-old daughter. Following the complaint, police initially registered a case against the accused. Pocso Act was invoked later after the child allegedly gave a statement against her father during counselling.The couple had married after being in a relationship for around 10 years. The woman’s complaint also alleged that he had been systematically recording and distributing her private images and videos without her consent.Kottiyam police are continuing the investigation, including into the alleged circulation and sale of the private videos through online platforms.
