T’puram: A 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer on duty and damaging a police jeep during a clash-related incident at Mylam Colony in Aruvikkara. The accused, Sanju, alias Chandu, a native of Vattakkulam, was arrested by Aruvikkara Police and remanded in judicial custody.The incident occurred after a police team reached Mylam Colony on receiving information about a clash. According to the police, Sanju allegedly obstructed the officers and assaulted grade sub-inspector Jyothi G A. He then allegedly used a metal object to smash the front portion of a police jeep, shattering its windscreen.The police team faced difficulty in bringing the accused under control as he allegedly continued to behave violently. Officers eventually overpowered him and took him into custody.Police said Sanju also became aggressive when he was brought to the police station. Officers at the station later subdued him, following which he was formally arrested.A case was registered against Sanju for assaulting a police officer on duty and damaging public property.Police said around 20 criminal cases are pending against the accused at various police stations.Police are also examining the circumstances that led to the clash at Mylam Colony.
