T’puram: A fast-track special court in Attingal sentenced a 34-year-old man to 75 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 9 lakh for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl. The court also directed the convict to undergo an additional 18 months of imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.The convict, Aneesh, 34, of Kalliyoor village under Nemom police limits, was found guilty by Attingal fast track special court Judge C R Biju Kumar.The verdict was delivered in a case registered by Pothencode police on Jan 11, 2025. Following the registration of the case, police launched an investigation, collected scientific and documentary evidence, recorded witness statements and subsequently filed the chargesheet before the court.During the trial, the prosecution examined 17 witnesses and produced 23 documents as evidence to establish the charges against the accused. The court accepted the prosecution’s case and found the accused guilty, following which the sentence was pronounced.Special public prosecutor U Salim Shah and advocate Neelima R Krishnan appeared for the prosecution and presented the evidence before the court. Victim liaison officer WCPO Dhanya T M coordinated the prosecution proceedings and extended assistance to the survivor and her family throughout the trial process.The investigation was conducted by Pothencode Inspector Ajeesh G R, who completed the probe and submitted the final report before the court.
